On-premise refers to software or technology run in a customer-owned or operated data center. In this model, the customer’s IT organization performs the day-to-day management of the technology installation, configuration, and system administration, as well as troubleshooting and repair. On-premise models have become less popular over the past two decades as more businesses have shifted to cloud and SaaS models in which the vendor operates and hosts the technology.
