Self-managed refers to a deployment model in which a customer runs and operates software in its own private cloud or on-premise data center. Self-managed is different than “as-a-Service” model in which a SaaS or cloud provider hosts and manages the technology on the customer’s behalf. Self-managed models are a popular model for DevOps, database, integration, and cybersecurity applications that are closely managed by development or IT organizations. Most self-managed applications are run in private cloud environments on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
